In Russian, schastye stems from the noun chast', "part". Thus, in Russian, to be happy etymologically means to be part of something. When I was thinking of a name for my Pie Company, I wanted to be original and also come up with something I hold close to my heart. Happiness is one of those things.
Want to know what else makes me happy (aside from pies) what makes my heart skip a beat ? I'm at my happiest, when I am out on an adventure. Traveling, camping, discovering new places, being by the ocean thats what my heart loves most.
I think my passion for travel and being outdoors stemmed from my childhood. When I was a kid, my dad had these big leather Canadian Encyclopedia type books, they had images on the front cover of The Voyagers paddling frantically through the rough Canadian waters. I would stare at those images and read through the stories of the great adventures that took place in Canada. Adventures of the fur traders, the Voyageurs, and Canadian explorers. It was all so fascinating. My family also went on a lot of camping trips, we would go out to the Adirondack Mountains, or visit our cottage in Quebec. We also have family stretched across the country, and when we were young my parents would drive cross country to visit family. I have many fond memories of travelling, and grew very fond of the Atlantic Ocean, and Eastern Canada.
In my spare time I enjoy going hiking near my home in Almonte, I often head out with my dogs for a hike through the forest in an area called Blakeny Rapids. It is one of my favourite places, and is teaming with streams, waterfalls, ridges, and beautiful trees.
Another area I love is Bon Echo Provincial Park, I've been back country camping there, with our two dogs. I'll admit having two dogs, and doing canoe-in camping is not the greatest idea, but we made some great memories and I hope to go back again before the season is over.
Below I've attached a short video that helps put a vision behind my love for Cape Breton Island. My husband and I make a trip out there every summer, and enjoy every last second of our time there. If you have not been yet, I highly recommend paying this beautiful island a good visit !
